Community Living Program

UCR Housing relies on the private off-campus community to supplement our housing options for the University’s many students, faculty, staff, and associates. If living in the private community surrounding UCR is something you wish to pursue, we invite you to contact us for assistance with your search. Housing Services offers resources ranging from our computerized Community Listing Service to privately published apartment magazines for the Greater Riverside Area. All resources are free to UCR students with a valid student ID. Current students with a Perm Pin Number (PPN) can log on to our Community Living Listing Service from the comfort of their own home or on a computer located in the Housing Services lobby via www.housing.ucr.edu/listingservice or at the UCR Housing website at www.housing.ucr.edu. There is a minimal fee for Community Living services for non-students. Our housing assistants would be happy to help you sort through your housing options in order to discover the fit that will be best for you during your stay at UCR.

The University of California, Riverside does not investigate, endorse, or guarantee the tenant ability of any listings or referrals or the suitability of those responding to the listings. Users are strongly encouraged to investigate potential accommodations and interview potential roommates personally.

THE 3-MILE APARTMENT GUIDE

The 3-Mile Apartment Guide contains a list of apartment communities in the UCR area, the styles, rent rates, and amenities they offer, contact information, and a customized map for ease in locating the communities. All apartment communities included in the 3-Mile Apartment Guide are members of the UCR Area Apartment Association. As such, they have voluntarily chosen to maintain an active relationship with the University. They are all certified in the Riverside Crime Free Multi-Housing Program.

SHORT-TERM HOUSING

Housing opportunities for UCR visitors whose stay will range from one day to three months include the University Extension International Residence Center (IRC), UCR Residence Halls, area hotels/motels, rooms in private homes. Ask an Assignments Representative for advice and information.

HOMEHUNTING TIPS

Start early. Housing near to campus is limited and in high demand.

Have money available in your checking account. Remember that apartment managers and homeowners often require first and last month’s rent, as well as a security deposit prior to move-in.

Make appointments to visit.

Be prompt and look professional.

Take notes.

Thoroughly inspect the rental unit.

Walk the neighborhood.

Consider transportation options and costs.

Insure that ALL rental arrangements and oral promises are made in writing.

Secure a receipt for ALL financial transactions.

Always complete an “inventory checklist” upon move-in. This checklist should document all conditions that exist in your unit and should be consulted upon move-out to insure fair processing of your deposit.
