Well-Being: HELP

The University is committed to maintaining high standards for health, safety, and security. Individuals who jeopardize the health, safety, and security of others by not following health and safety procedures will be subject to disciplinary action from not only Housing Services, but also the University and civil authorities. All residents and their guests must recognize the importance of the following health and safety regulations. Volunteers can sign up at RSO’s if they would like to assist during an emergency situation.

ESCORT SERVICE/SAFER WALKWAYS/EMERGENCY CALL BOXES

UCR has a volunteer escort service that we encourage you to use when you walk on campus at night. It is administered by the Women’s Resource Center. If you want to be escorted to any location on campus during the evening hours, call 827.3772. Hours are sundown until midnight, Sunday through Thursday. You should volunteer to help if you can afford the time.

The campus has identified safer walkways, which are marked with green reflectors. These walkways have increased illumination and less vegetation around them.

Emergency call boxes, directly connected to the Campus Police, have been placed at strategic intersections of the safer walkways.

INJURIES AND ILLNESS

Student Health Services, 827.3031, is located in the Veitch Student Center by parking lot 15. These services are available from 8 am -11:30 am and from 1:00pm - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Most services rendered for the student are free, but there is a fee for spouses who are treated, and they do not treat children at all. If you become ill or sustain an injury when the Health Service is closed and do not feel you can wait until the next day to see a doctor, please contact a neighbor, CA on duty, or check your self into an area hospital. If immediate assistance is required, dial 911.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

If you are taking prescribed medication or under medical treatment which may be necessary to know in case of an emergency, please inform the Crest Resident Services Office Staff. This information will remain confidential and will only be used by the staff in the event of an emergency.

This center is located in the Veitch Student Center in the North Wing. It is open from 8 am to Noon and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday; Fridays they close at 4:00 pm. Again, if the Center is closed and you are in need of immediate assistance, contact the Riverside Help line at 686-HELP, dial 911, or CA on duty. Services are free to students, and spouses are free if they come in with the student.

SECURITY/UNIVERSITY POLICE

Both your personal and property safety are important to us. For your protection, we urge you to read and follow these guidelines:

1. You are advised not to walk alone at night, either on or off campus. For an escort from the campus to your car, home, etc., contact the Escort Service at 827.3772.

2. If you find yourself in trouble, use emergency call box phones located on campus. The University Police will answer these phones and will provide assistance.

3. If you observe suspicious individuals in the complex, do not hesitate to contact the University Police at 9-1-1 or CA on duty.

4. Whether or not you are at home, never leave your unit unlocked. Secure all money and valuables. If a theft should occur, contact the University Police.

5. Residents are advised to obtain personal property insurance for their belongings. The University assumes no responsibility or liability and provides no insurance or financial protection for a Resident’s personal property. Policy information is available at the Crest Resident Services Office.

The University Police and their student aides, Community Services Officers (CSO’s) provide protection for Crest Family Student Housing. They are here to assist in keeping your living environment safe and secure. Your alertness and assistance in reporting suspicious activities or occurrences help in providing this type of environment.
